Saudi
Music Hub is starting a series of The Lounge - an event series that is
educational and social in nature. We invite the public to learn, listen, and
socialize in a non-formal setting, engaging in conversations with our esteemed
faculty.
Each
event will have a certain theme and for the 1st of them in the series, we have
chosen Tariq Abdulhakim.
Join
us in a heartfelt tribute to the remarkable life and enduring legacy of a
legendary Saudi musician. As we gather to commemorate his memory, we reflect on
the indelible mark he left on our lives and the world around us.
Tariq
Abdulhakim (ca 1920-2012) was more than a name. He was the first person in
history, and the most important single figure of his generation, dedicated to
the preservation and promotion of a national music identity of Saudi Arabia.
Although faced with many challenges, he persevered and emerged as a visionary,
committed to enhancing the range and quality of Saudi musical arts.
He
was an accomplished composer, arranger, singer, musician, researcher,
bandleader, heritage enthusiast, and the founder of Saudi military music. Tariq
created at least 14 military music bands, the first orchestras, the first
choirs, and the first institutes for music education in Saudi Arabia. He
organized and trained heritage music troupes who represented the nation and
performed around the world to much success. Taiq’s significance was recognized
globally, culminating in his winning the prestigious UNESCO International Music
Council Award in 1981.
Join us as we come together to honor the life,
legacy, and enduring spirit of Tariq Abdulhakim. Together, let us remember,
reflect, and rejoice in the profound legacy he leaves behind.
