The Violin course at the Saudi Music Hub is designed to guide you to join the Arabic takht band and to prepare you to join further higher studies in this instrument. From Level 1 to Level 6 (4 months per term/16 sessions), you will learn a wide spectrum of techniques and styles that combines teaching western violin technics with a special focus on the Arabic violin school. Learners that are interested in this area will have the possibility to play a central role in the preservation of the Saudi musical heritage.


Learning outcomes


Level 1

Learners will be able to acquire skills by:

  • Showing an elementary control of the instrument.
  • Demonstrating an elementary knowledge of bowing and fingering
  • Showing an elementary synchronization between fingers and bow actions.
  • Playing prescribed technical requirements of elementary basics.
  • Performing repertoire of elementary musical and technical demands.
  • Enhancing knowledge of the different elementary Arabic music theories.
  • Demonstrating the ability to hear, identify, and work conceptually with rhythm, melody, and structure



Level 2

Learners will be able to acquire skills by:

  • Enhancing knowledge of the different Arabic music theories at elementary level.
  • Demonstrating awareness of comprehensive characteristic features and performance conventions.


Level 4

Learners will be able to acquire skills by:

  • Enhancing the synchronization between fingers and bow actions.
  • Playing prescribed maqam technical requirements at elementary level.
  • Demonstrating elementary knowledge of the Arabic violin school.
  • Performing repertoire of moderately complex repertoire.
  • Learning about the Saudi traditional music and performing some of its repertoire.
  • Enhancing knowledge of the different Arabic music theories at elementary level.
  • Demonstrating awareness of comprehensive characteristic features and performance conventions.


Level 5

Learners will be able to acquire skills by:

  • Demonstrating intermediate knowledge of the Arabic violin school.
  • Performing repertoire of moderately complex repertoire and technical demands.
  • Performing Saudi local traditional music repertoire.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of the different Arabic music theories at intermediate level.
  • Performing in group and ensembles.


Level 6

Learners will be able to acquire skills by:

  • Demonstrating control of the posture.
