The Ney course at the Saudi Music Hub is designed to guide you to become a soloist on the stage and learn how to play this popular instrument of the Arabic tradition.
The curriculum is built to help you to join the musical scene in the region. From Grade 1 to Grade 3, you will learn a wide spectrum of techniques and styles that are related to the Arabic Ney tradition. Learners that are interested in this area will have the possibility to play a central role in the preservation of the Saudi musical heritage.
Learning outcomes
Level 1
Learners will be able to acquire skills by:
- Defining control of the apply appropriate breath techniques and management of the diaphragmatic breathing.
- Forming the necessary shape of the lips to produce sounds.
- Recognizing the right angle in which the body and the Ney should be located.
- Recognizing the fingers to be used in the basic holding position.
- Differentiating between the pitches produced with cool breath and warm breath.
- Recognizing the difference in pitch between strong and weak blowing.
- Recognizing the transition between the different degree sounds.
- Playing prescribed technical requirements of elementary maqam basics.
- Performing repertoire of elementary musical and technical demands.
- Enhancing knowledge of the different elementary Arabic music theories.
Level 2
Learners will be able to acquire skills by:
