This interactive workshop introduces participants to the rich world of Eastern and Western rhythms through hands-on exploration of the darbuka and the drum kit. Through dynamic group activities,
students will explore rhythm-making, basic techniques,
and musical storytelling, enhancing their creativity and cultural awareness. No previous musical experience is required.
Workshop Objective:
To develop participants’ rhythmic awareness, coordination,
and improvisation skills through exploring two culturally
distinct percussion instruments. The session aims to inspire curiosity,boost listening and group interaction abilities, and provide an engaging musical experience for all levels.
Expected outcomes:
Learn how to play basic rhythms on the darbuka and drum kit
Understand the cultural and historical context of each instrument
Recognize and differentiate between Eastern and Western rhythmic styles
Participate in group performances and improvisation
Develop confidence and collaboration through rhythm games
Feel inspired to continue exploring percussion after the session
