This workshop takes participants on a musical journey into the world of improvisation and Taqasim, one of the most vital elements of creativity in Arabic music.Participants will explore the modal foundations (Maqamat) that form the basis of Taqasim, and learn how to employ them as a means of free artistic expression across various traditional instruments.The workshop blends theoretical study — understanding the structure and performance of Maqamat — with practical application through hands-on instrumental exercises, empowering musicians to express themselves spontaneously with authenticity, depth, and refined artistry
Workshop Objective:
Introducing
participants to the concept of improvisation and its role in the heritage of
Arabic music
Studying the fundamental Maqamat and exploring the techniques of modulation
between them during Taqasim.
Training participants to develop personalized improvised musical phrases that
reflect their individual expression
Refining the skills of musical listening and melodic interaction between the
soloist and rhythmic accompaniment

Intermediate to advanced level – all traditional Eastern instruments (Nay, Oud, Qanun, Violin).
